Get Off The Couch And Vote

I get funny e-mails all the time from my conservative whacko friends. Some I get a chuckle out of and others are just dumb. They're meant as jokes for sure, because no one can be stupid enough to take them serious. The Obama birth certificate controversy is popular in various forms. The most recent one showed the President asking that dopey couple that snuck into the White House for their invitations and their response being "sure, if I can see your birth certificate". Kind of funny, but old news. Obama Party

It was proven quite some time ago that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. I usually use the e-mails as "teachable moments" for my friends by letting them know that Hawaii is in fact a part of the United States. I also remind them that John McCain was actually born in Panama, which is not a part of the United States, but I rarely have to defend him against similar jokes; and for the record he, also, is a legitimate U.S. citizen.

The scary part about the joke e-mails is that some people actually do take them serious. I have seen a string of commentaries recently in the Patriot Ledger by people mimicking some joke e-mails I have received regarding citizenship issues and illegal aliens. Again, a teachable moment, because illegal aliens cannot get a drivers license, social security number or free health care. All it takes is a little research to educate oneself rather than believing the propaganda. Is there an argument for allowing them to get licenses? Yes, and it is generally supported by law enforcement.

Even scarier is that the Ledger prints garbage opinions like that. One perceptively placed liberal comment from me brings a flurry of hate from the right. Easy pickens. Maybe that's what the Ledger likes.

Of course to educate themselves on the issues would mean getting their fat asses off the couch and that brings me to my next pet-peeve, voting. The same lazy slob conservatives that send the stupid e-mails and make the uneducated comments don't vote. I voted for Mike Capuano in yesterdays election. It took all of 5 minutes-- for real. Next I'll be voting for Martha Coakley and I'll get to listen and read all the hate spewed by those that don't vote when she is elected over her Republican opponent.

I voted for Capuano because I felt he was no nonsense and had experience. I also looked up his record on the issues and many coincided with how I felt. Not hard to do. I educate myself and make it a point to vote and it gives me some good firepower when my lazy ass, conservative, wacko friends think their smarter than me.
