Backwards And Forwards

Since everyone else makes up "best of" and "worst of" lists and sets their goals for the new year I figured I'd at least take look at how the Wahey Boy web site has gone this past year, it's inaugural season, and share what my thoughts. That is, of course, the primary objective, sharing MY thoughts.

I'll start off by stating that I was surprised by my Wahey friends shyness and insecurity when it comes to sharing THEIR thoughts. I know when we're out having a couple of beers, there are plenty of opinions, but it appears that they are not so forthcoming when the opportunity arises to share them with "outsiders". They are known as "lurkers" in the internet world. The thing is, the site doesn't really attract that much traffic that their opinions would actually be read by that many outsiders. One friend in particular was quick to pick up the phone and share his opinion with me verbally but couldn't bring himself to make any constructive comments in writing here. Now it seems, my liberal thoughts have so outraged him that he doesn't return my calls. Oh well.

Just to remind everyone, this site isn't just about my opinions or opinions at all, it can also be about whatever one wants it to be, such as music, funny stuff, whatever. There were some comments made and some interesting videos and assorted funny pictures that were contributed and I appreciate that.

I purposely tried to maintain a clean site. Not allot of tough guy stuff like cursing and pornography. You can find that anywhere. I think I achieved that.

My goal was to keep the site mostly about Weymouth or Massachusetts and how the Wahey Boys were part of it. I received many comments about the historical and other Weymouth information located within the site. I was glad of that because I put some considerable time into that and will continue to.

The blog part of it was mostly my comments on what was happening in Weymouth and occasionally beyond. My two most passionate subjects were Legion Field and Southfield. So far, nothing has changed with either of those subjects so I will be writing more critical opinions on them this year. An early opinion that I offered was regarding fundraising for Weymouth Schools and its relation to underage substance abuse. The Weymouth School Committee did not pass the policy I blogged about, which is a good thing. That subject has quieted down for the time being.

In the coming year I hope to begin interviewing some older current or former Weymouth residents to get their opinions on Weymouth topics as well as their historical perspective. Naturally I will be expanding the historical pages, particularly the Weymouth People section.

Keep up the good work, Stan. We Weymouth expatriots who have emigrated to places like Cape Cod salute your efforts.
