Accidents Don't Just Happen

I've been blogging for a few months now and although I try to keep the subject matter centered around the Town Of Weymouth, I have found myself opining about other subjects as well. The subject of driving a motor vehicle and the surprisingly controversial complications that come with it keeps appearing in the news headlines. Not too long ago, I commented on the issue of driving while using a cell phone and elderly drivers. Now it appears that bad driving habits have struck close to home.

Teen Drivers

With all the talk lately focused on elderly drivers, we can always count on a couple of "Masshole" teenage drivers to remind us that their age group is still the most dangerous when behind the wheel. Take these two misfits, who not only caused tremendous injuries to themselves and their innocent victims, but now intend to sue. Of course, in Massachusetts, the way insurance works is, you must sue anyone and everyone until you recover enough money.

Elderly Drivers

A couple of months ago I wrote a brief commentary about elderly drivers with thoughts that maybe it was time to somehow come up with a method of testing in order to prevent those with declining abilities from driving. I also noted that it was not a matter of chronological age so much as mental and physical acuity that should determine their ability to drive. Since that time there have been more tragic vehicle accidents, involving elderly drivers, and there have been numerous opinions made as to what needs to be done.

Senior Drivers

I have been expounding recently to anyone willing to listen about the “texting while driving” debate. I’m one of those people who generally don’t like laws of any kind that infringe on personal freedom so I applaud the Patriot Ledger for their opinion column “New Law Not Answer To Texting While Driving”. I like to think that education, not dictation, is the way to change attitudes.
