Seat Belt Laws

I recently commented on a Ledger report about police cracking down on seat belt usage this week. I’m not sure what’s so special about this week as opposed to any other or how law enforcement all of a sudden thinks they can focus on seat belts when, by law, they are not allow to. Anyway, my comments, particularly regarding seat belts are often misconstrued by those who feel I am against wearing a seat belt. That is not the case, so, I want to clarify something. I wear my seat belt all most of the time. I also make anyone riding in my vehicle wear one and I remind my driving age children to wear them. You know why? Because they save lives it’s the law. I obey the law and believe anyone caught disobeying the law should be fined, cited, arrested, what-have-you.

Kooky Like Jerry Williams

Call me kooky, but I’m from the school of thought that when the Man Upstairs decides to pluck your sorry butt from amongst the living, then nothing will save you, not even a seat belt. I’m hoping our old friend Jerry Williams is “talking me up” to the Almighty as I write this otherwise I might find my personal freedom forever restricted by a seat belt in Purgatory. For those who don’t remember Jerry, he was the talk radio host that campaigned against seat belt laws and won.

Texting While Driving The Budget

Senator Steven Baddour, the Senate chair of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Transportation was recently quoted “This generation clearly doesn’t get it. It’s not the same as talking on a cell phone.”, while discussing the Senate’s reasoning for including a “budget” amendment that would ban writing and reading text messages while behind the wheel. Well guess “what’s up” Mr. Senator, you and your colleagues “clearly don’t get it” because talking on the cell phone IS the same thing as texting. Sure, we can all go through the semantics by stating that you obviously have to look away from the “task at hand”, driving, in order to text, but let’s be realistic they’re both distractions. Quite frankly, the Senator’s quote is the best argument yet, for NOT imposing a ban at all.
